Daily Dose: Twitter scores $800 million in record breaking deal

Today, Russian venture firm DST Global invested a record breaking $800 million into Twitter.  According to the release, half of that investment is meant to let Twitter employees and investors cash out their shares, with the other $400 million sold in new shares.  Twitter's value has now doubled to $8 billion after closing its last venture round in December.

Light Bulb WLAN hits 800Mbps

Creating wireless networks using light isn't new technology, as Chinese scientists hit speeds of 2Mbps using blue LEDs that flickered faster than human eyes could percieve. Researchers hit 500Mbps with white LEDs this year, and now German engineers and scientists at the Heinrich Hertz Institute used a combination of white, green, blue, and red LEDs to get speeds of up to 800Mbps. This new wireless technology could be particularly useful in places like hospitals, where radiowave technology can interfere important equipment.


NetBeans certified for Java 7

Even though NetBeans 7.0 has had Java 7 support since April, the newest version of the popular IDE is now certified for Java 7's final release. The new release, version 7.0.1, updates GlassFish to 3.1.1, enhances WebLogic integration, and includes a number of recent patches. NetBeans 7.0.1 is an automatic update for all NetBeans 7.0 users.

Grails adds Groovy 1.8 Support

The newest version of Grails, version 2.0.0, was released today as a "major milestone" for the web application framework. The latest version adds support for Groovy 1.8, a new "user friendly" console, and support for database migration and reverse engineering.
