Daily Dose: ICANN Approves Generic Top-Level Domains

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers granted approval to generic Top-Level Domains that they believe will be the new homes for brands in the near future. The decision will allow brands and companies to buy their name and attach it to their URL (example- guinness.beer, or sprite.soda). But with a $185,000 application fee and a $25,000 yearly fee to run the registry, these domains seem to be limited to those with deep pockets.

Blogger Finds Hypervisor In Windows 8 Build

According to WindowsNow.com blogger Robert McLaws, who has been examining the new Windows 8 Milestone 3 build, the client code base of Windows 8 contains a Hyper-V 3.0- which has new memory, storage and networking enhancements.

New MongoDB Update

MongoDB released the 1.8.2 version of their 1.8 stable branch over the weekend.

Some changes include:
 

 - slaveOk fix in mongos
 - concurrency improvements in mongos
 - replica set status message thread safety

Google Apps To Drop Support For IE7 In August

In a move which proves that the "Kill IE 6" campaign didn't fall on
deaf ears, Google Apps announced that they will drop support for the Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3.5 and Safari 3 browsers in August. Since Firefox seems to be speeding their updates up, this trend of dumping support for outmoded browsers is sure to continue.
