The newest release of one of the Apache Project's pet data warehouses, Hive 0.7.0, has been announced.  Originally developed for Facebook and then turned over to Apache in 2009, the Hive development effort has produced two major releases in the past two years.  Hive 0.7.0 has several new features, including security features (authorization/authentication), and an optional concurrency model.  A major new component of Hive 0.7.0 is indexing.  Although only compact indexes are supported, the groundwork has been laid for future enhancement of the indexing feature. You can download Hive 0.7.0 here.

New FireFox 4 for Mobile

After over a year of development effort, Mozilla has released the 'Fennec', or Firefox 4 for Mobile.  Initially, the new version of the popular browser will only be available for Android devices, including the Nokia N900.  The same browser engine used for Firefox 4.0 was used to create Firefox 4 for Mobile.  With HTML5 technologies, tabbed browsing, and built-in support for Firefox Sync, the mobile version of Firefox 4 is a force to be reckoned with.  Firefox 4 for Mobile requires at least version 2.0 of the Android OS to run.  Mobile users can download FireFox 4 for Mobile here.
