The Future of Organizations, the Future of Technology
While attending HP’s Discover event (disclosure – HP covered some of my expenses for attending the event) in Frankfurt in December I was invited to take part in an interview alongside fellow Antipodean Paul Muller. The interview started off with Paul Muller explaining what he does in terms of looking at the macro trends impacting on business and society and mapping that to products and services that HP offers.
Muller is someone whose opinions about the future of the world and, by extension, the enterprise, mirror some of my own – the deluge of information, connected devices, machine learning, approaches towards employment and increasing demands for agility all produce both challenges and opportunities for technologists.
I was collared on the show floor to give my view on the changes I’m seeing in enterprise, and what that means for technology companies in general. It was fun to explain my view on the future to an audience that isn’t tech-centric. I’ve stated before that my passion in technology is to help realize technological opportunities to a far broader market – it’s through articulating where those opportunities lie that a wider pool of people can start to think about what these shifts mean for them – technology has a place to help the world to a better future, and can help deal with the large number of challenges that business, governments and society face today.
